Wedding Registry 101

Well, to be honest, wedding planning has been going on for quite some time now. But now that we are officially engaged planning is in full swing.

Also, I'm still not used to having this beauty on my finger. I can't stop staring at it.

This past weekend we started our registry at Bed Bath & Beyond. We came prepared with an extensive list of every kitchen gadget we could possibly need.

Oddly enough our relationship consisted of not two people but three while we registered our gift list. By this I mean the sales associate would not leave our side and was quite insistent on us registering the most expensive fine china in the store. Needless to say we were slightly peeved. Regardless, the few moments we were able to spend just the two us were so fun and exciting. I couldn't help but think that we were doing so much more than just scanning appliances. We were building our future home, the home our children would eventually inhabit. The thought of our future life makes me so happy it hurts.

Here are some helpful tips for registering:

  1. Before you make the trip to wherever you chose to register, sit down as a couple and make a detailed list of everything you want. Most stores will give you a list of things you 'need', but these lists often include things that are quite unnecessary.
  2. Contrary to what the sales associate may lead you to believe, fine china does not need to be on the registry. Although it can if you so desire, stoneware or glass may be more affordable and practical.
  3. Devote at least 2 hours to registering, especially at a store as large as Bed Bath & Beyond.
  4. Enjoy the process! Make it fun and don't let it stress you out. Remember, these are gifts that you get to pick out beforehand. That's pretty nifty if you ask me.
